What is changing in the standards that you use,

A lot is being said in recent months about "Functional Safety" and SIL. 

The EN 61508 range of standards is the beginning for this. They set out the general requirements that need to be considered for the safety that is required to be implemented.

Each industry sector is working hard to implement their sector specific standard to aid them to incorporate Functional Safety.

Machinery now has its own standard which is called EN 62061.

This was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on the 31st December 2005. This means that if your control system complies with this standard you are fully compliant with the machinery directive.
